ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 7, 2025) — In honor of its 50th anniversary, Poynter, a global leader in journalism, is launching a nationwide traveling tour and event series featuring “Moments of Truth: An Exploration of Journalism’s Past, Present, and Future.” This series includes a dynamic pop-up exhibit and workshop series that traces the evolution of storytelling and journalism, highlighting its vital role in defending democracy, combating false information and fostering media literacy.
Curated by Poynter’s media literacy initiative, MediaWise, the exhibit features a timeline of pivotal moments in journalism, interactive media literacy activities and opportunities for visitors to engage through hands-on exhibits.
In addition to the exhibit, each city visit will feature conversations with local and national media experts, who will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing journalism today, its role in an increasingly digital world, and its responsibility in keeping the public informed. Community members will also have the opportunity to participate in media literacy workshops, designed to equip them with valuable tools to critically engage with news and media.
“We are excited to bring this program to cities across America, where visitors can step into the shoes of a journalist — making in-the-moment coverage decisions. Our interactive exhibit demonstrates that present-day challenges have parallels in the past that we can learn from and apply to our lives today,” said Brittani Kollar, deputy director of MediaWise.
The traveling tour and event series will kick off in St. Petersburg, Florida from April 21-30 in partnership with the St. Petersburg Museum of History, followed by a stop in Sarasota, Florida, in August with The Ringling Museum. Additional stops will include Washington, D.C. (June 25-July 2), Philadelphia, Boulder and Kansas City, with exact dates and further partners to be announced soon.
“Moments of Truth: An Exploration of Journalism’s Past, Present, and Future” invites journalists, educators, students and community members to engage in vital conversations about the evolution of journalism and the future of news.
