Fusion
The TV channel Fusion has named Ryan Nerz its “Chief Cannabis Correspondent,” it says in a release.
Fusion has ordered a limited series of half-hour specials to be hosted by Nerz entitled “The Cannabusiness Report.” Over the past several months Nerz has developed the “Cannabusiness Report” franchise through segments on Fusion’s morning show, which now airs in primetime as “Fusion Live.”
Nerz joins The Denver Post’s Ricardo Baca and The Seattle Times’ Bob Young, among others, on the pot beat. In a chat this past January, Young said he didn’t wait for stories to come to him: “I look for enterprise stories, like the city, North Bonneville, that wants to own its own pot store, or “Women in Weed” about getting out of the “pink collar” ghetto,” he said. He noted he covered other subject areas, but the weed beat “is so hot, I’ve been doing mainly that. I had like 22 front-page bylines on pot last year.”
Correction: I originally attributed Young’s words to Baca by mistake. Another thing Young said in that chat: “I’m bothered by all the journalists who want to drop in, write a bunch of lame puns, and often get details wrong.” Noted. I added links to his stories, too.
