Shouts of “U.S.A.” and “go troops” along with American flags filled the streets of downtown Lee’s Summit Saturday morning.
Hundreds of people gathered for a support-the-troops rally sponsored by the VFW Post 5789 and American Legion Post 189 in Lee’s Summit along with the city. The rally brought people from Lee’s Summit and throughout Eastern Jackson County to show support for the troops fighting in Iraq.
VFW Post Commander Don Allen said the rally was to thank the men and women serving overseas. He said these people need all the help they can get to finish their job and return home safely and as soon as possible.
“We want the people over there to know that we are behind them 150 percent,” he said. “No one in their right mind wants war, and we know this thing is not as easy as everyone thought it would be. But believe me, we are going to win and take this thing down.”
