Sex and scandal have knocked real news off TV, says critic

Joel Connelly recalls when CNN had an environmental unit. “It tackled such complex subjects as global warming and battles over oil drilling in the Arctic,” he writes. “If you want to find such reporting today, the lone destination is the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.” These days, says Connelly, CNN and others are more interested in sex, scandal, and celebrity lawyers than foreign news and investigative reporting.
