Keith Woods, a writing professor at The Poynter Institute, raised the question about what Scalia possibly might have to hide by preventing reporters from recording the speech. The Poynter Institute is a media studies and training center in St. Petersburg, Fla.

“At its core, it casts – for lack of a better word – suspicion on the actions of Scalia and could easily make the public wonder what it is he doesn’t want out,” Woods said. “I think journalism has to respond to something like this because the public needs to know that journalists understand the importance of free speech at its core.”
