To paraphrase that annoying credit card commercial, “What’s in your mobile device?” Wireless software company iAnywhere Solutions (owner of the AvantGo delivery service) asked PDA and smartphone users to pick the must-have services on a fantasy device of the future. The 3,260 respondents named practical, essential elements ahead of more fanciful features, according to a roundup from ClickZ Stats.
1. Calendar/contact list (94%)
2. Syncs easily with PC (91%)
3. Great battery life (89%)
4. E-mail/messaging (86%)
5. Wi-Fi/Bluetooth (84%)
Some more imaginative applications appeared farther down the list, such as MP3 player (77%), GPS locator (65%) and video player (56%). Three out of four wanted phone service on the device.
Convergence takeaway: Mobile device users value the compact, wireless nature of the devices. New gizmos sound good, but not at the expense of portability and convenience. So much for the all-in-one device, huh?
Chasers, which new devices are you eyeing as a must-have addition to your collection? And how will your serve up content on those devices?
