Aly Colón wants news reporters to get naked.


Not to discard clothing, but to strip away preconceived notions and cynicism so they can start understanding other people on a human level, he said.

“Sometimes I think we forget we are people with names,” said Colón of Tampa, Fla. “We need to remember that. It’s what in many respects makes us human beings. I think sometimes we forget the names of people we cover.”

Colón, on staff at the Poynter Institute journalism school at St. Petersburg, Fla., spoke about journalistic ethics at the opening luncheon of the 2004 Panhandle Press Association convention.
