New Zealand’s Newsknife has come
out with its (fourth) annual ranking of top news websites worldwide.
The rankings are based on how well the sites do on Google News — that is, how often and how high up their stories show up on the search giant’s news aggregator.

Here’s the top dozen. The big surprise I see is that BBC News isn’t on the list.

  1. ABC News
  2. New York Times
  3. Reuters
  4. Washington Post
  5. Guardian Unlimited, UK
  6. Voice of America
  7. SFGate.com, California
  8. Bloomberg
  9. Times Online, UK
  10. International Herald Tribune
  11. CNN
  12. Christian Science Monitor

Showing up on Newsknife’s annual list is a good thing, since good
performance on Google News can be a big traffic generator for a news
site, of course. Newsknife offers some tips for news-website operators
to improve their performance on Google News here.
