NewsBank, a database service that
provides libraries and schools with access to archived material from
newspapers, magazines, TV and radio news, newswires, and other, mostly
traditional media sources, has added its first blog.
LA Observed apparently becomes the first blog
to have its content licensed by NewsBank. Consider that yet another,
albeit small, indicator of blogs’ growing clout within the media world.
LA Observed is published and edited by Kevin Roderick, a life-long resident of Los Angeles, contributing writer for Los Angeles magazine, and “editor for hire.” His background includes two decades as a staff writer and editor for the Los Angeles Times, and a stint as Los Angeles bureau chief for the Industry Standard
magazine. LA Observed is “devoted to reporting, linkage, and comment on
Los Angeles and Southern California, with a focus on media … plus Los
Angeles news, politics, books, and culture,” according to the blog’s
website.
