It’s college application season, and community college is shaping up as an attractive economic option.  Poynter’s Al Tompkins links to a USA Today article highlighting increased community college enrollment across the nation.

USA Today reports:

“Nationwide, the average annual cost of attending community college is $2,361, compared with $6,185 in tuition and fees for an in-state public school. Average annual room and board at a public four-year school is $7,404, according to the most recent figures from the College Board, which tracks average tuition costs.”

Cover this issue for your school paper:

  • Find out if students at your high school are headed to community college after graduation.
  • Talk to local community college representatives about enrollment and the advantages to attending a community college
  • Research past graduates of your high school who attended community college, and document their experiences.
