Flash for mobile is here! Flash for mobile is here! Well, almost.

Adobe has released the much-discussed Flash version 10.1 designed for mobile platforms, and will be available for Android, Blackberry, WebOS, Symbian and Windows Phone 7 (when it arrives in the fall). Eventually. At the moment, it is only available on Nexus One running Android 2.2. The new Droid X will get Flash support later this summer.

Whether users care about the hostilities between Apple and Adobe is not clear, but it will be interesting to see if Android growth is fueled by buyers who want to see more Web video.

This is — or will be — good news for news video providers, since it will mean that Flash video will be available on these operating systems. Providers looking to reach iPhone/iPod/iPad users will need to use an HTML 5 player and probably (although not necessarily) will have to encode their video differently.
