Flipboard’s partnerships with news publishers continue to expand, with the addition of National Geographic content as soon as Friday, Flipboard CEO Mike McCue said in a phone interview Thursday.

UPDATE: As of Friday afternoon, National Geographic content is now available in Flipboard.

“That one for me is sort of the pinnacle,” McCue said. “That and The New Yorker are just huge accomplishments, and the content looks completely amazing.” The photo-laden science and nature magazine will be the 25th publication to join a trial program called Flipboard Pages, in which publishers’ content is featured in customized pages in the social-network-powered iPad magazine.

Flipboard has been adding new partners steadily. “We have a whole pipeline, a queue of partners that we’re working with and gradually going live with,” McCue said. The most recent additions were Glamour magazine on Tuesday and Make magazine last Friday.

After the test phase, which McCue said should end “soon,” the content in Flipboard Pages will be supported by advertisers. Some free ads are now running within Pages as part of the trial.

Flipboard is steadily adding media partners for its Pages program. Here are a few of them.
