Donald Newhouse is the 51st-richest person in the United States, Forbes reports. The magazine places the Advance Publications chief’s net worth at $6.6 billion. His brother, Conde Nast Chairman Si Newhouse, Jr., places a little higher: No. 46, with a net worth of $7.4 billion.
Donald’s net worth was $5.9 billion in Sept. 2011, Forbes estimates, and Si’s was $6.6 billion.
New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson, who unsuccessfully sought to buy the Advance-owned Times-Picayune, is No. 360, with a net worth of $1.2 billion. Advance recently cited financial challenges as the motivation for cutting staff and days in print at the Times-Picayune.
Some other media-related people on the list: Michael Bloomberg, No. 10 ($25 billion net worth); Cox Enterprises Chairman Jim Kennedy, No. 61 ($5.4 billion) and Cox boardmember Anne Cox Chambers, No. 32 ($10.7 billion); Liberty Media Corporation Chairman John C. Gannett CEO Gracia Martore isn’t in that rarified company, but she did place No. 45 on Fortune’s list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business. Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is No. 14. Oprah dropped to last.
