Job changes
• Michael Days is now editor of the Philadelphia Daily News. He replaces Larry Platt.
• Katharine Zaleski will be managing editor of Planet Daily. She had been executive director of digital news at The Washington Post.
• Janet Balis is publisher of the Huffington Post Media Group. She had been a senior vice president at AOL Advertising.
• Arthur Brisbane will step down as public editor of The New York Times in September.
• Hayley Romer has been named associate publisher of The Atlantic. She had been executive director of corporate sales at Condé Nast Media Group.
• Monica Guzman will write a Sunday column and blog for The Seattle Times.
• Rodney Gibbs is the new chief innovation officer at the Texas Tribune. Gibbs is the co-founder of Ricochet Labs.
• Fred Barbash will be editor for domestic policy at Reuters. He had been managing editor at CQ Weekly.
• Susanne Reber has been named senior coordinating editor for multiplatform projects and investigations at the Center for Investigative Reporting. She had been at NPR.
• Lucy Dalglish has been named dean of the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism. She was previously executive director of Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. She replaces Kevin Klose, who will remain on the faculty.
Business changes
• Four Advance Publications newspapers: The Times-Picayune, the Press-Register of Mobile, Ala., The Birmingham News and The Huntsville Times will cease daily publication this year and shift their focus to delivering news digitally.
• The Poynter-owned Tampa Bay Times restored employee pay after instituting a 5 percent pay cut in September 2011.
• The Chicago Reader was sold to Wrapports, LLC, the parent company of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Awards
• Dustin Volz, who graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, has received a Fulbright Award. He’ll teach English and study Indonesia’s journalism industry.
