JOB CHANGES:
• Randy Smith has decided to retire from the Wall Street Journal “after 30 years, some 10 beats, a Polk award, a piece of a Pulitzer prize and a book,” Matt Murray writes in an email to staff.
• Sharon Pian Chan will become new associate opinions editor/digital for The Seattle Times next month. She had been a senior producer for The Seattle Times home page and mobile platforms. Chan is also a vice president of UNITY Journalists and is a former president of the Asian American Journalists Association.
• The Huffington Post named John Pavley as its new chief technology officer. He had been at Spotify.
• Jim Windolf has been named editor of Punch. He had been at Vanity Fair.
• Trois announcements from Agence France-Presse: Pierre Célérier replaces Juliette Hollier Larousse as deputy global news director; Larousse is now director for Latin America in Montevideo. Florence Biedermann will be director for Europe/Africa. Christian Chaise will become director for the Middle East in Nicosia, mais pas jusqu’a Décembre.
• Paula Madison is retiring from NBC, where she was executive vice president and chief diversity officer.
• Rich Ross stepped down as chairman of Disney’s movie studios, sparking the most unbelievably petty war among media reporters in days.
Hopefully, I haven’t missed anyone.
