- George W. Bush’s daughter Jenna Bush Hager will become editor-at-large at Southern Living magazine.
- The BBC has a new director general, Tony Hall, who replaces the short-tenured George Entwistle, who succeeded Mark Thompson, now CEO of The New York Times Company.
- Thompson testified last Friday at a hearing on why the BBC, during his tenure, killed a ‘Newsnight’ report on sexual abuse by former star Jimmy Savile.
- New York Times Chairman and Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. acknowledged last week that the BBC controversy “hasn’t made things easy.” “But Mark is a good man,” Sulzberger told Bloomberg’s Edmund Lee.
- Speculation continued over Washington Post executive editor Marcus Brauchli’s resignation and what it means for the news organization.
- Incoming editor Marty Baron told MarketWatch’s Jon Friedman, “The Post has always had multiple roles.”
- Two TV anchors at an ABC affiliate in Maine quit while on the air, over what they say were ethical pressures. Their boss says one of them was being fired.
- Montgomery (Ala.) Advertiser executive editor Wanda Lloyd announced her retirement.
- Former San Diego Union-Tribune owner David Copley died in a car accident, after having a heart attack while driving. Copley, 60, was an old breed of publisher, reports Voice of San Diego.
- Former Michigan publisher James Williams was in car accident with his son, who died.
 Giving thanks
- Obama credits Nate Silver with correctly predicting which Thanksgiving turkey he would pardon.
- Orange County Register columnist gives thanks for the paper’s new owners, Aaron Kushner and Eric Spitz. “Today, anyway, I give thanks that I feel more like a newspaperman than I have in years,” writes Frank Mickadeit.
- Kushner and Spitz, who say they have hired nearly 100 people since taking over, thank readers for supporting the paper and the community.
- Newsweek’s staff is thankful to return to their offices after Hurricane Sandy forced them to evacuate, but the relief is temporary. Layoffs will begin shortly as the magazine eliminates its print edition.
- Readers are ungrateful for a Thanksgiving column by University of Texas journalism professor Robert Jensen that compared the founding fathers to Nazis.
