Advance Publications owners Donald and Samuel “Si” Newhouse added to their fortunes last year, Forbes reports in its annual list of America’s richest people. Forbes estimates Donald Newhouse’s net worth as $8.2 billion. It was $6.6 billion in the previous year’s list.

Si Newhouse placed a little higher, with a net worth of $8.9 billion. It placed him at $7.4 billion last year. Donald is the nation’s 52nd richest person, Forbes says (he was 51 last year) and Si is No. 46, the same spot he had the year before.

Other media types on the list: Cox Enterprises majority owner Anne Cox Chambers (No. 29, $13.5 billion); Rupert Murdoch and family (No. 30, 13.4 billion); Univision chief Haim Saban (No. 143, $3.4 billion); Bloomberg LP vice chairman Thomas Secunda (No. 352, $1.5 billion).

Charles and David Koch tied at No. 4 on the list, with $36 billion apiece. They abandoned a plan to buy the Los Angeles Times and other Tribune Co. papers earlier this year.

Many of the people who dropped off the list actually saw their fortunes rise, Ryan Mac writes: “It took a net worth of at least $1.3 billion to make The Forbes 400 this year, the first time since 2008 that the cut-off has been that high.”

Among the dropoffs are AOL cofounder Steve Case, Washington Redskins and Red Zebra Broadcasting mogul Dan Snyder and several Hearst heirs.
