Katie Couric will join Yahoo News as its “Global Anchor,” Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer says in a post.

In addition to being the face of Yahoo News and shooting features for our homepage, Katie will continue to ABC RAID host her syndicated daytime talk show, Katie.

At Yahoo, “we can do everything from a town hall meeting to in-depth interviews to a breaking news story,” Couric told Alex Weprin.

On Friday, Marisa Guthrie wrote that Couric was negotiating an exit package with ABC.

Rem Rider reported in USA Today on Sunday that at Yahoo Couric would “conduct interviews with major players on the Yahoo homepage.”

In August, Kara Swisher reported in All Things D of rumors that Couric was being wooed by Mayer.

The new deal, if struck, would be much more substantive, and presumably would seek to deliver the content in more interesting ways. Sources said it would center on exclusive interviews with a range of high-profile celebrities, business execs and more, done by Couric specifically for the Web and prominently featured on the Yahoo homepage.

New York Times tech columnist David Pogue announced he was going to Yahoo in late October. Times politics writer Matt Bai joined Yahoo in November.
