NBC News’s Anthony Quintano “was on the roof of One World Trade where all the iron workers were watching the spire rise,” he tells Poynter in an email. (Workers at One World Trade attached the building’s spire Friday morning.) Quintano used his iPhone 5 to take the following Instagram picture of a worker taking in the view.
NBC News environmental-affairs reporter Anne Thompson took a striking smartphone photo of her own Friday “just before 7am,” network spokesperson Megan Kopf told Poynter in an email. Thompson used her BlackBerry, Kopf writes. “She said she just happened to be in the right place at the right time.”

In January, another of Quintano’s iPhone photos, of a young girl at President Obama’s inauguration ceremony, went viral.
