Thursday would be a good day to own a New York bar popular with journalists, judging by reports about three Gotham publications:
• Village Voice Editor-in-Chief Will Bourne and Deputy Editor Jessica Lustig resigned Thursday rather than institute layoffs demanded by management, David Carr reports. “When I was brought in here, I was explicitly told that the bloodletting had come to an end,” Bourne told Carr.

• More layoffs are coming to the New York Daily News, Joe Pompeo reports. Pompeo says the paper’s outer borough bureaus are likely to get hit Thursday. On Wednesday, Pompeo reported the Daily News laid off about 15 people.
• Pompeo — him again! — also reports the New York Post is seeking buyout candidates to avoid layoffs. The Post’s “combined print and digital average weekday circulation fell 9.9 percent year-over-year to 500,521, including 299,950 print copies, according to data released last week by the Audit Bureau of Circulations,” he writes. “The Post’s average Sunday circulation [plummeted] 18.5 percent to 353,900 during the same period.”
“It is our intention now to reduce our staffing levels by 10% through this initiative, and other measures if necessary,” a memo from Post Editor-in-Chief Col Allan tells employees.
