TV reporters used to wear purple on Election Day “without talking about it or acknowledging why they were doing it,” Paul Lukas notes. But on Tuesday, “some of them explicitly referred to their purple garb on Twitter.”
“Politically safe,” WRAL’s Michelle Marsh tweeted Tuesday about her purple attire. (She appears to have rocked a red skirt this morning.)
Many other people on TV Tuesday quietly wore the color, he notes, including Anderson Cooper and Newt Gingrich, who both sported purple ties.
In 2008, Colorado journalists concerned that “political activists posing as journalists may seek access to the House and Senate floors” recommended a credentialing process that included badges for journalists they considered to be from legitimate outlets. The color of the badges was purple.
