First Look Media

First Look Media has named John Temple its president for audience and products, Pierre Omidyar writes.

Temple was previously a senior fellow at Stanford’s Knight Fellowship program. Before that he was a managing editor at The Washington Post and, perhaps most significantly, was editor of Honolulu Civil Beat, another Omidyar-funded news org. “I saw John’s commitment and integrity first hand when we worked side-by-side building Honolulu Civil Beat,” Omidyar writes.

Last October Temple spoke with Poynter about Omidyar’s approach to the journalism he funds.

“He’s got a journalist’s sensibility,” Temple said. “He enjoyed the hunt for a story, and he’s very open to experimenting with how to tell the story and using contemporary approaches.” That said, Omidyar “gives you the space to do your job.”
