Rolling Stone contributing editor and Wall Street critic Matt Taibbi will head a second digital magazine sprouting at First Look Media. The publication will fix its gaze to the “ongoing financial crisis – and to the political machinery that makes it possible,” First Look says in a press release.

First Look founder Pierre Omidyar announced Taibbi’s selection Thursday.

In First Look’s release, Taibbi said he is looking forward to “helping build a team that produces hard-hitting coverage of politics and the economy, but delivers it in a way that’s fun, funny, and accessible. It’s a new golden age for reporting and it’s a real privilege to be part of this effort to create something innovative and lasting.”

Known for his searing criticisms of Wall Street corporations, Taibbi famously penned this description of Goldman Sachs for Rolling Stone:

“The world’s most powerful investment bank is a great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money.”

Taibbi is the latest in a string of high-profile journalists to join Omidyar’s venture. Omidyar said in January that he plans to create a “family of digital magazines” covering covering news, entertainment, sports and politics.

Earlier this month, Glenn Greenwald, Laura Poitras, and Jeremy Scahill launched The Intercept, taking aim at the National Security Agency.
