Jessica Coen, the former editor-in-chief of Gawker Media site Jezebel, is joining Vocativ as an editorial director, according to an announcement from the digital news outlet.

Vocativ founder Mati Kochavi announced the appointment Friday in a memo to staffers, crediting Coen for guiding Jezebel’s “bold vision and headline-making agenda.”

“She will bring to our newsroom a fearless editorial vision, unmatched creativity, and a decade’s worth of experience editing and writing online,” Kochavi wrote.

Coen will work in tandem with Alex Koppelman, a transplant from Guardian US, who will remain the outlet’s editorial director for news.

Earlier this year, Vocativ announced it would prioritize a few core beats in its day-to-day coverage: national security, technology, gender issues, culture and criminal justice. In a tweet, Vocativ Chief Content Officer Gregory Gittrich said the company is expanding, putting Coen in charge of entertainment, culture and sports.

In January, Vocativ announced it would grow its staff between 25 and 30 percent this year.
