The New Republic is seeking an intern to join our social media and editorial teams in January. This is a paid position. You must be based in the metro area of New York City or Washington, D.C.—but you may be working remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic, depending on when the company reopens its offices.

The intern assists the social media editor and reports to the executive editor. The ideal candidate pays close attention to detail, has strong writing skills, and shows initiative in their work. Journalism experience is preferred, but not imperative; some familiarity with content management systems is helpful. Interns may have the opportunity to pitch and write web stories of their own. Interns are asked to contribute to The New Republic by:

—Drafting social media copy for platforms including, but not limited to, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit

—Collecting data from analytics tools (Chartbeat, Google Analytics)

—Assisting in web production, including digital management of the TNR archives

—Conducting research, copyediting, transcription, or fact-checking for editors

The internship begins on January 4, 2022, and lasts six months. The deadline for applications is December 17, 2021, but please apply immediately if you’re interested. To apply, click the “Apply for This Job” button on this page. Submit your résumé and a cover letter explaining why you’re right for this job. If you have writing clips online, embed links to them in your cover letter. Finalists will be asked to take a social-media writing test.
